Emma is really into board games now so I have been starting a collection of garage sale finds.


This is my personal favorite of the day.

"Scare City"

I get these posts every day and sometimes one of them really speaks to me. Today's really hit home.

When you buy into the *scarcity* principle, you live
in "Scare City": a place where you're always afraid of
coming up short.

In Scare City, you can't enjoy what you have -- you're
too busy worrying about what you *don't* have. All the
cups in Scare City are half empty.

Somehow, young children are largely immune to the
distressing effects of living in Scare City...

* They enjoy the abundant *now* while their
parents worry about the lack of time.

* They transform their homes into magical
worlds while their parents worry about the
lack of order.

* They give and receive love endlessly while
their parents carefully ration their limited
supply.

To live the Good Life, you have to leave Scare City
and go to a *dance* -- a joyful, magical, healing
dance where you release your fears and *shake your
booty* like nobody's watching: a-BUN-dance!

New swings!!

I had been thinking about how to get two swings on our set without buying the insanly expensive plastic buckets from the store. We had wooden ones growing up and I remember them being just fine. Well, we already had the wood and just needed the U-bolts and chains. Tuan took care of the measuring and drilling and I hung them up. Daniel thought it was new and fun but didn't really get into them for a few days. Emma however, LOVED them! She was so excited!

A storm was coming in so it was getting colder and raining. She didn't seem to care.

Heh - this never posted. Ah well. It was back when we had one of the first nice days of the spring. Jackets but warm enough to play outside. As you can see we hadn't but the swings up yet.



Although it is supposed to be getting cold again later this week, this is what we have for now.

Em really wanted it to snow a few days ago. Now we get to go sledding one last time before next winter!

I hate this door hanger. It was given as a gift (not white elephant I promise!) and I am just too cheap to go buy one that I like better. So I hung a Christmas wreath on it and then the wind blew the pretty wreath that I made away and all I have left is this ugly door hanger that I hate! lol And it is still there. In April! lol I should take it down.

Just to clarify - these pics have nothing to do with my personal life. They just make me laugh.

I must have laughed myself silly for 5 minutes straight. Emma and Daniel looked a bit worried after a while.

Spring harvest?

The weather is playing with us. Toying around like it might warm up for good. The anticipations was killing me so I decided to do some prep work on a small garden patch. And I found carrots! Oops - forgot to harvest those. Wasn't sure if they would taste bitter or sweet, but I called Em and D over to help me harvest them. And they had a blast!
Emma just wanted to get them all pulled out. As fast as she could. Before Daniel could! lol

Wait - you want to eat these??

All different sizes. This is what happenes when you do your best to plant the itty bitty carrot seeds w/ the help of your toddlers. And you are too much of a softy to kill, er thin the plants.

Not bad! This summer I am going to plant a lot more carrots so that I can harvest through the winter and early spring. It's only my second garden - I'm still learning.

Oh - and they were so sweet! Em tried a bite, D wasn't interested. I was the only one who ate them raw. Delicious!

Urgent! IDaho Midwifery Bill

Anyone else in Idaho read this blog? We need your help!

Idaho Midwifery Bill:

This bill requires all practicing midwives in Idaho to either submit to a host of new regulations, licensing, and bureaucracy or go out of business. Currently, Idahoans have the freedom to decide who will provide care for them and their babies. If this bill passes, the politicians will decide which options are legal for you to choose from.

This mandatory licensure bill would:

1. Put 1/3 of the midwives out of business (10 have admitted this). Some of these midwives only do a couple of deliveries a year. They can’t afford licensure fees (up to $1,000 annually) and mandatory classes..

2. Drive away future midwives. A handful of ladies looking to become midwives in the next few years have admitted they would abandon pursuit.

3. Set up a whole new layer of unnecessary bureaucracy and hassle by creating a Board of Midwifery.

4. Make the practice of midwifery, without a license, a felony after two convictions.

5. Restrict midwives from making the best decisions in extenuating or emergency situations for their consumers.

The bill has already passed the House unanimously. (It had no opposition, due to the fact that those few midwives pushing the bill kept the radical changes done to it under wraps from the rest of the midwives until after it passed the house.) Now a lot of midwives and consumers of midwifery are banding together to kill the bill. House Bill #185 will be in committee this Monday, March 16th at 3pm.

We need your help! Please contact all 9 members on the Senate Health & Welfare Committee by form letter and/or phone and let them know that you are opposed to House Bill #185 pertaining to midwifery.

Emma, dress designer

So I was asked about this dress in a comment. Emma was not a toddler who particularly cared about her clothes. But once she turned three all of a sudden she only wanted to wear skirts and dresses. No pants/jeans/shorts for her. We had to make several trips to the fabric store to get more thread for the curtain linings I was making. Each time she would ooh and aah over the display of Valentine's Day fabric and ask if I could make her a dress from the fabric. We waited for a sale on the fabric and patterns and turned Daniel loose on the pattern books while we looked for the perfect dress and fabric. She chose this pattern and we moved onto fabric. I really like her choices and think that they turned out really cute.



Sunday morning and she wants me to make the dress for her to wear to church. I worked as fast as I could but knew that I wouldn't have time to put the zipper in. So I added a belt really quick and sewed the zipper seam. Embarrasingly enough I still need to put the zipper in and shorten the straps a tad. Oh well - she wears it all the time and when the zipper seam finally wears out I'll have to put the zipper in. lol

Emma's birthday napkins become stepping stones to stay away from the alligators!


Yesterday was sunny and quite nice - I even hung laundry outside. Today - snow flurries all day!


The lights and seeds and seed trays for my starts. Spring is here!


Look at those gluten-free beauties! And yes, that is my laptop w/ a recipe site open. Granola!!!!


Note to self - when using the toaster oven, remove any plastic bags of sugar from the top first!
